Early Autumn in Cades Cove
Great Smoky Mountains National Park
This is the most visited national park in the country. With over 800 square miles and a 6,000 foot elevation change, the park is home to a remarkable biological diversity, with over 17,000 species of plants, animals, and invertebrates documented. Classified as a temperate rainforest, there are over 100 native tree species. The Cades Cove area reflects the rich history of human habitation, with the widest variety of historic structures of any area in the park. It was always one of my favorite places in the park, and I especially enjoyed biking around the loop road early in the morning. The hiking, wildflowers, and wildlife in the Smokies are all superb! This is one of a series of paintings "My Backyards" , celebrating the beautiful places I have been privileged to call home. Framed to 12 x 16.
